FAQ

Are there any false alarms when using Sigloo?

If the sender device was sewn up correctly and we check it and clean it every 2-3 days, then there are no false alarms at all. Those factors that might activate other birth alarm systems (the mare laying down when resting, perspiration in a hot stall etc.) will have no effect on Sigloo.

Can birth commence without alarm?

If the sender device was tested and sewn up according to our instructions and it is checked regularly than birth without activation is not possible. The problems that could occur with other alarm systems (the mare not laying down when giving birth, no perspiration in cold weather etc.) have no effect on Sigloo.

Is not sewing up the sender device painful for the mare?

Sewing up the device means two small stitches only with a thin needle. The pain is pretty much the same as that of two injections. Now a complicated birth with no supervision or a foal that got stuck would mean much more suffering for the mare.

Is the sewn up device not disturbing the mare?

The mare will ignore the device from right after the sewing up is done. The correctly sewn up sender device is neither disturbing, nor painful for the mare.

How do we know, when to sew up the device?

It is recommended to check the mare from the 3rd week before the due date. If we can milk only a couple of water-like drops from the udder then there is no need to sew it up. When the milked liquid starts to look blurry, then it is time to sew it up.
On average this happens around 7-8 days before birth.

How to sew up the sender device correctly?

It has be done by a horse vet in each case. After viewing the pictures on the CD this is not a problem for a horse vet. It is essential to test the sender device before each use according to the user’s manual.

Can the senders magnet be used more times?

As long as the fixing string is sound it can be used more times.

What shall I look for when using the receiver device?

The receiver is working with a normal sim card. It is essential to use a working sim card and if it’s a pay as you go card we should check the balance regularly. It might be a good idea to set a special ringtone on the phone that will be called when birth commences.

What needs to be done after the sender device is sewn up?

The device should be checked every 2-3 days, it should be cleaned from the dried dung.

What should we do at birth?

The sending device only uses electricity when at birth the small magnet is pulled out. Upon arrival it is essential to insert a stand-by magnet into the sender device and protect its battery.

Tips until the next use

Some of our customers use Sigloo for other purposes between two births. If we attach a longer cord to the magnet, it will be able to signal:
that some horses got out of the stall at night, or there are people moving around in the stall
that something was moved (e.g. a saddle, the door of our truck at the competition etc.)
